In July 1916, Vern V. Moulton and four associates created Auto-Owners Insurance in Mount Pleasant, Michigan. In 1935, they expanded their business outside of Michigan, starting in Indiana. Auto-Owners began selling life insurance in 1966.
Today, Auto-Owners sells insurance in 26 states and is represented by more than 48,000 licensed agents.
